People and Education

In getting back to basics, your team is crucial. The people doing the daily work in your business are your greatest asset. Effective teams are successful teams and successful teams build successful businesses. A happy team enhances the customer experience which in turn, raises profits.

It may seem like a large task to get all your team on board with your overall vision, but the more you invest in your team, the greater the overall business success.

Investing in your team does not need to be at a great cost or take a lot of time, even the simple things can make a huge difference.

The Simple Things

Does your team all know what their role really entails? Something as simple as having clear job descriptions can clear up any confusion and help your team find purpose in their roles.

Getting all your team members on board with your overall business mission, vision and values can help your people to move the business in the right direction.

Conducting ongoing training keeps everyone on the same page and can help to upskill your employees, should the situation suit.

You need to ensure you are also communicating and educating your new employees. Make sure you have an induction process in place to assist new recruits in their introduction to your business.

Listen to your team

Are you listening to your team? Really listening? You will find that they have a wealth of knowledge and ideas for your business if you are willing to listen.

Make it part of your regular routine to check in with everything and see what can be improved. Scheduling regular team meetings, if you don’t already, can be a great way to get your team to open up, but don’t forget that some team members may need more one on one time to feel comfortable with putting their ideas forward.

Listening to your team will build trust and rapport, meaning they will feel more involved in the business and be more willing to be an active member of the team helping the business succeed.

Process and Procedures

Having systems and processes in place can help keep your team’s skills and knowledge growing, getting better results for your business.

The induction process is only one of the processes to have in place. Others can include:

· An ongoing training system

· Conflict Resolution process

· Recruitment systems

· Staff Contingency Plans

· Staff Recognition and Reward system

When implementing any new system or process, ensure you communicate effectively with your team. Get their input and let them know why you are wanting to create the new system. This will help get them all invested in the system and make the implementation process a lot smoother.

Expand your own knowledge

It is not just your team’s education that you need to invest in. Make sure you are investing in yourself as well. Expand your own knowledge base and learn how to become a more effective leader. Developing your own leadership skills will pay great dividends as you learn to get the most from your team while creating a positive and happy workplace.

Invest in your greatest asset, your people and their education, and you will see a great return on that investment.
